Gardner Zig Rig Session Pack – Review and How To

Quick step by step (and review) for Gardner Zig Rig Session Pack

Gardner Zig Rig Session Pack

The Gardner Zig Rig Session Pack is a great way to get all the bits needed to create a zig rig hooklink in one easy step. There are a bunch of different ways you can set these bits up, but I will detail a basic set up that I find easy to use and effective.

The Kit includes:

1x Zig Link 20m Spool in 10lb , 1x stick of 8 colors of Zig Rig Foam: Yellow, Red, White, Pink, Orange, Brown, Pellet Brown and Black, 1x pack of size 11 Covert Mugga Hooks (Pack of 10)

This kit does not include hair stops or lead clips, but other than that you are good to go!

As a side note these size 11 Covert Mugga Hooks don’t seem to be available to purchase outside of this kit.

Setting up a basic zig link

Step one – cut your Zig Link

First you need to determine the length of your rig. If you are unsure, you can cut off the maximum you think you will need; you can always shorten later. You can store full length links in a Gardner Rig Bin which keeps them tangle-free until you need them.

Step two – tie a small loop

A simple over hand loop is all you need or you can use a figure 8 loop know or even a loop tier!

Step three – cut your zig foam

Here you can try any size or color you think might work. You can also stack different colors together. In this tutorial I am looking to mimic sweet corn.

Step four – put the foam on the hair

This is just like any other hair rig. The Gardner Dumbell hair stops work great for this and they can match most bait colors.

Step five – tie a knotless knot

This is really the same simple knot as on a basic hair rig! I used enough wraps to have the hair exit the shank opposite the point.

Step 6 (final) – tie a loop in the other end

The last step to to tie a loop to attach the link to the rest of your rig. I use a figure 8 loop knot.

And your all set! If you are interested in other zig tackle head over to Big Carp Tackle and have a look. Want to know more about why zig rigs work? Check out this article.
